School

The village Community Primary School is made up of 3 classes, and has just under 60 children on its roll. As well as covering the whole of the National Curriculum, the school provides extra-curricular clubs that include sport, music and craft activities. In recent years a wildlife garden has been created which serves as both an area of scientific interest, and a quiet reflective corner for the older pupils.

Next door to the school is a private dwelling known as the Old School House. At one time it was the Headteacher's house but its original purpose was as a school for the village children. It was built by an enlightened Victorian gentleman, Sir Culling Eardley, during the 1830's. There is a plaque dated 1835 on the north gable end of the building with a quote from Proverbs. The current school was presented to the village in 1870 by Mrs Culling Hanbury in memory of her parents.

Plaque

The plaque on the end wall of the Old School House reads:

'Take fast hold of instruction let her not go for she is thy life.'

The school has served the village for over 150 years. It enjoys the support of a committed Friends of the School Association and Governing Body who are both determined that the school should continue to thrive for the benefit of all the pupils.
