November 2017 - Police Report

You may have heard about a scam that is circulating at the moment, and it is important to us that all of our residents are aware of it.

The Scam involves a phone call from someone saying that they are a Police Officer and that there is a problem with your bank account, this will ultimately result in the arrangement of a ‘Police Officer’ or a courier being sent to collect account details – what follows very shortly afterwards is the withdrawal of sums of money from personal accounts.

These people are professionals in criminal activity and could fool the best of us. The Police face a problem that due to the potential embarrassment of being scammed, not many people are reporting it and as a consequence can be targeted again.

Please cascade the message to residents, that we need to know about any contact with scammers so that we can put actions in place to protect those affected.

2 years ago, 2 males were arrested in Nettleton for the same scam. This was following a resident losing a large amount of money and us being alerted. Unfortunately, we could not locate the 2nd person that they were on their way to visit as the resident was possibly too embarrassed to make their selves know to us.

Caistor Police, Louth Police and Humberside Police have been running operations in recent weeks to target on going rural crime and poaching. Local landowners have also been out with us, often at short notice, to be extra pairs of eyes. Several Officers have been involved in marked and unmarked vehicles, in addition to the Drone and added support of the quad bike. One vehicle was stopped as it was acting suspiciously, however no offences disclosed on that occasion. One vehicle is currently on our ANPR stop list should it travel through our area, as we would like to speak with the occupant/owner in relation to cause of some rural damage.

The Caistor team have been visiting schools this month, talking to students about the dangers of sexting and also discussions have taken place with Keelby Primary School as they move towards more enhanced on-line safety.

The problem with quad bikes on land at Swinhope and Claxby is still on going. If anyone has any pictures or is able to identify those concerned, as per previous reports , we are keen to issue written warnings with view to their bikes being seized, however we do need evidence/identification of this to proceed. 5 bikes that had been at Claxby were monitored heading towards Grimsby, however the ANPR camera was unable to pick up the registration numbers.

Home security checks have been carried out in villages, this month and if anyone would like a visit please email caistor.npt@lincs.pnn.police.uk or ring 101 to make an appointment.

At the risk of sounding boring please do not assume that leaving a car running, with its keys in to defrost the windscreen, will still be there when you come back out of the warm house. It’s that time of year again!!

Crime updates/trends can be viewed on www.police.uk

May we take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and safe festive season!
