The name Nettleton means "the place where nettles grow". Gardeners in the village certainly know the truth of that! There are over 280 households in the village which straddles the A46 Grimsby to Lincoln road.

The village has many ironstone houses and is situated on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are many good walks in the area and the Viking Way long distance footpath runs through the village. For energetic walkers seeking refreshment, the Salutation Inn is a good place to stop and you can also get soft drinks at the village shop.

Now a quiet residential community with a few farms around it, Nettleton was once the centre of extensive ironstone mining activity. Located close the small town of Caistor that dates back to Roman times, the Nettleton valley was once home to Roman occupiers.
